Modalities

Dr. Wdowin specializes in a variety of modalities and therapies that he combines to create an individualized treatment plan for his patients.

The following is an incomplete listing of the modalities or therapies offered.

Bioidentical Hormone Therapy
Bioidentical hormones are manufactured in the lab to have the same molecular structure as the hormones made by our own body. When compared to synthetic hormones, they are intentionally different. Drug companies can’t patent a bio-identical structure, so they invent synthetic hormones that are patentable, ex Premarin, yet these synthetic hormones produce unwanted side effects in the body. We have had the greatest success with an individualized approach.  We begin with laboratory tests of hormone levels, via a hormone panel, and then if warranted, we then prescribe a precise dosage of bioidentical estrogens, progesterone, testosterone, and/or DHEA.

Depuration Therapies and Environmental Medicine
Depurate is defined as “to make or become free of impurities.” We use chelation therapy and other research supported depuration techniques to safely remove heavy metals (mercury, lead, cadmium etc.), pesticides (2,4,5,TD or Agent Orange, DDT etc.), benzene, toluene, PCBs, phthalates, dioxin, and numerous other toxins and their metabolites from the body. Current studies show that all US residents carry a body burden of such toxins. Pollutants have been linked to medical conditions such as neurological degeneration (e.g., Parkinson’s), developmental issues such as autism, cancer, musculoskeletal diseases (e.g., fibromyalgia), autoimmune disorders (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis), kidney disease, heart disease, and others.

Diagnostic testing
We offer specialized and comprehensive diagnostic testing to aid in the diagnosis, detection, and or prevention of disease. The testing may include using samples of the patient’s blood, urine, saliva, or stool.

Herbal Medicine
Herbal medicine has been used throughout human history, making it the oldest form of healthcare. In the early days of herbal medicine, much of the medicinal knowledge was developed through trial and error and passed down by word of mouth to the younger generations. As these practices evolved, information was methodically collected and stored in the form of well-defined herbal pharmacopoeias. Chemistry always chases nature and today many pharmaceutical drugs are based on either an action or a constituent of an herb. Many pharmaceuticals, however, cause side effects not associated with the original herbal formula. Largely because of this, and concerns by consumers, resources supporting research in the effectiveness of herbal therapies has dramatically increased in recent years.

Homeopathy
Homeopathy is a system of medicine coming from Germany that has been practiced since the late 18th Century. Homeopathy is considered a complementary and alternative medicine practice (CAM) today. Homeopathy is widely used in Europe, India, and recently seen a resurgence in the USA. Homeopathy works with the person’s natural healing abilities to restore health and vitality.

Intramuscular (IM) Injections
Intramuscular (IM) injections are the injection of a substance or medication directly into a muscle. Some of the medications administered are more effectively utilized by the body if injected into a muscle due to the slower absorption rate when compared to an intravenous administration. IM’s are often prescribed for many conditions including prevention, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and weight loss.

Intravenous Nutritional Therapy
Research and clinical experience has shown that most patients with chronic diseases require more than dietary changes and oral supplementation to dramatically improve their condition. Intravenous nutrition guarantees that the administered medications bypass barriers to absorption and penetrate deeply into cells to support efficient metabolism and promote tissue repair.  We offer intravenous therapies to address a variety of diseases and have seen success with conditions including allergies, cancer, chronic fatigue, diabetes, fibromyalgia, heart disease, and weight management.

Lifestyle and Nutritional Recommendations
Often the most inexpensive and most successful therapies are the most simple, i.e., you are what you eat. Throughout history we have known that diet and exercise play a large role in our overall health. Research suggests that through lifestyle and nutritional changes the risk of being diagnosed with cancer can be decreased by up to a 70%.

Medically Supervised Weight Loss
We offer a complete weight loss program that helps people achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Through the use of diet, education, exercise, human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), supplements, and other therapies we help people take control and attain their goals.

Pharmacology
Pharmacology, or the use of prescription drugs, can be a very effective and powerful tool. The doctors have the capacity to write prescription drugs, and often do, yet they prefer to treat the cause of the disease and not just manage the associated symptoms.

Preventive medicine and Health Optimization
We stress preventative medicine to all of our patients and offer a number of tests to evaluate risk factors of chronic disease and cancer. Some of the tests measure nutritional status, chronic or underlying infections, body toxicity, genetics, inflammation, antioxidant status, and many others. For example cholesterol can play an important role in heart disease, yet, there are almost 20 factors associated with heart disease. Do you know your risk factors?

Orthomolecular Medicine
Orthomolecular medicine, as conceptualized by double-Nobel Laureate Linus Pauling, aims to restore the optimum environment of the body by correcting imbalances or deficiencies based on individual biochemistry, and using substances natural to the body such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, trace elements, and essential fatty acids.

Prolotherapy
Prolotherapy uses a mixture of ingredients including dextrose, a sugar, which is injected around the ligament or tendon where the laxity and pain is occurring. This procedure induces a localized inflammation in the injected areas, which then modifies the repair response of the body, increases the blood supply and flow of nutrients, and decreases pain.

Scar Therapy
Following a laceration or surgical intervention many people form dark and fibrous scars. These scars can be bothersome for some people on a cosmetic level while other people may suffer from pain or stiffness in the damaged area.  We offer an injection technique that can over time help to lighten the appearance of the scar and decrease the related pain and stiffness.

Trigger Point Injections
Trigger point injection (TPI) is typically used to treat extremely painful areas of muscle. A trigger point is a knot or tight, ropy band of muscle that forms when muscle fails to relax. The trigger point can often be felt under the skin and may twitch involuntarily when touched; this is often referred to as a “jump sign”. The TPI’s are performed by a doctor and have been shown to be effective at alleviating pain associated with conditions like fibromyalgia.
